第三天 太平

The Lake of Peace and Serenity
Written by Paul Chong

Mirror mirror on the lake, who’s the prettiest of them all? That’s what i thought when I saw Taiping Lake Garden. The stillness of the water literally reflects everything. The clear blue sky and the trees present beside the lake are reflected clearly. Trees were vividly shown on the surface of the lake. With such a big mirror in front of me, what else to do but to reflect on my past.

I started to calm down and ponder. It was like looking into a mirror to see what is wrong with you or your life. And when I look back, at that moment, I found that my life until that instant has not been the life that I wished to live. When I look back at my life, I found that what I have been doing is complaining and whining. I have not been a very good student, partner, friend or even a son. At that moment, looking at the lake, I know I have to change, I must change!

As I was busy taking in everything using both my camera and my eyes on the beauty of Taiping lake garden, something caught my eye, and that was surely the power of nature. Rows and rows of Angsana trees were lined up on the side of the lake across the road along the lake garden. These humongous branches stretched across the road to side of the lake. Its arch is just like a long necked dinosaur bending over for a gulp of fresh water. These Angsana trees form a natural canopy to shield against sun rays, which is a such a blessing for visitors walking, cycling or driving around the lake. What a give from mother nature. According to the locals, during the time when these Angsana trees blossom, a golden canopy will form. And when the winds blow, the sight of golden snow is comparable to the cherry blossoms in Japan. When these “golden snow” is settled down, eyes will feast upon the magnificent sight of a golden carpet fit for a sultan. What a sight that would have been.
